The support centre for visual arts IBK (Initiatief Beeldende Kunsten vzw) recently launched their new website, which can be read for a large part in English too. The site contains a lot of information about current and past exhibitions, events, conferences, residencies etc. under the section ‘news’. One of the new features is a Database for Visual Arts, containing information about Flemish persons and organizations dealing with contemporary art, such as artists, theorists, researchers and art organizations, education and supporting organizations. The database of contemporary artists shows short introductions to the specific artists, their CV’s, images of their work, texts, etc.
IBK was installed in 2001 and in 2002 a website was created. But in the past years, IBK has transformed slightly, paying more and more attention to professionalizing and internationalizing the sector of the Flemish visual arts. This evolution asked for a new site, which would be more fit to the mission and goals of the support centre. IBK wants to show the richness of the visual arts scene in Flanders to the Belgian arts scene, but also to the world abroad. The new website and its elaborate database will play an important role in this mission of professionalism and internationalization.
